As the celebrations of America250 continue, in this issue we bring you new articles on the American Revolution, Henry David Thoreau, and the Concord Lyceum. The issue also includes two very special fold-out inserts. Declaring Independence, Then & Now explores an exciting initiative by Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area in which a narrator and cast of five bring to life the the Declaration of Independence—our nation’s “sacred scripture”. The program will be presented in more than twenty towns in the Freedom’s Way area. Our second insert, Timeless Taverns, explores the vital role taverns played in the years leading up to the Revolution. Taverns became Patriot refuges, where decisions were made about separation from the Crown and what a more democratic form of government would look like.
